“Religion that God our father accepts as pure and faultless is this to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.” – James 1:27
I cannot write anything about Light and Salt ministries without first quoting this verse. For me this is the match for the candle, the engine for the boat. I can’t read this and ignore it. I can’t read this and not change. But here I am in resource rich northern B.C. Canada, raising eight children while my husband grows a small business. I have to say I don’t run into a lot of recognizable widows and orphans on the streets of Fort St. John, but I still feel compelled by these words. And I am more than aware that the “social safety nets” that we enjoy in Canada are simply non-existent in most of the world. Supporting Light and Salt ministries means I get to put James 1:27 into action in my life! This is exciting! There are many ministries clambering for our attention but Light and Salt ministries stood out to me as a very grass roots ministry. It has been inspiring to watch Tara move from the comforts of Canada into unfamiliar territory, meet Alex and be in ministry together. In a climate of need and poverty Light and Salt offers hope, meeting both practical and spiritual voids. To me this is exciting kingdom work that I am thankful to be a part of!
